Freedom of Artistic expression
FIA is committed to the protection and promotion of freedom of artistic expression. FIA’s members were among the respondents to the 2013 survey on this issue, carried out through the special rapporteur on cultural rights at the UN High Commission on Human Rights. At European level, FIA was active in a group of cultural civil society NGOs who set up a hearing of the then special rapporteur Ms Farida Shaheed in the European Parliament. The group also drafted and adopted a set of core policy demands related to artistic freedom, which you will find in this section. FIA also responds in an ad hoc way to instances of persecution and censorship of performers, with letters to governments, petitions and campaigns as some of the tools at its disposal to further their cause.
