Report from the Closing Conference of the OIRA project for Live Performance, Athens 15-16 June 2016

The OIRA II project by the European Social partners came to a close with a final event that took place in Athens on the 15 and 16th of June 2016.

The FIM, FIA, UNI-MEI and Pearle* project to further develop and promote Online Interactive Risk Assessment in the Live Performance Sector has come to the end of its final phase. With the invaluable support of the European Agency for Occupational health and Safety, the European Social partners in the Live Performance Sector and their project consultants have published two risk assessment tools: one geared towards Productions and one towards Venues. These tools are freely available at www.oiraproject.eu/oira-tools.

This event was an opportunity to offer a detailed insight into the use in practice of the OIRA tool, including during touring. It will also offered an in-depth focus on the process and practicalities of developing a national tool, in the national legal framework for use in the national context. Several countries expressed their interest in developing such a tool in the wake of the conference, a process the social partners will certainly support going forward.

The conference was a rich exchange of experiences on the value of solid health and safety policy in the sector and the challenge of developing a real culture of risk assessment, as an integral part of work in the sector.

The venues for the conference in Athens were the National Theater/ Rex Building on the 15th of June and at the Michael Cacoyiannis Foundation on the 16th of June. They created a wonderful backdrop for two very rich days of work.

The project and the conference were possible thanks to the financial support of the European Commission.
