Today, European Social Partners published their Framework of Actions (FoA) on diversity and inclusion. One of the formal outcomes of European social dialogue, a FoA puts forward recommendations for actions by employers’ and workers’ organisations, as well as other relevant stakeholders such as educational institutions.
FIA General Secretary Dominick Luquer commended the achievement saying “this joint framework of actions is an important benchmark for the Audiovisual sector in Europe, highlighting where social partners can continue to drive progress on diversity and inclusion and showcasing the many good examples around Europe that can serve as inspiration. FIA’s affiliates in Europe will certainly make good use of it in their national social dialogue fora and policy contexts.”
Recommendations are grouped in four chapters that address:
(1) the pathways into the sector;
(2) inclusive workplaces and work processes,
(3) diversity on screen, and
(4) monitoring processes.
The list of suggested actions is not exhaustive but a guiding framework to be adapted and adjusted depending on each organisation, its size, its mission, and the territories it operates in. All sector organisations are however invited to take some action to prevent any form of discrimination, and contribute at its level to a more diverse and inclusive audiovisual workforce as well as to a more diverse representation on screen and on air.
The Framework of Actions was drafted in conclusion of a project co-funded by the European Union and in the context of which four roundtables were organised. European social partners express their gratitude to all the individuals and representative organisations who contributed and shared their experience and expertise during those meetings.
The FoA on diversity and inclusion is complementary to the FoA on gender equality adopted by the European social partners in 2011 and updated in 2023. Both instruments need to be promoted simultaneously, taking advantage and building on the synergies between the two parallel tracks.
Signatories – the Association of Commercial Television and Video on Demand Services in Europe (ACT), the Association of European Radios (AER), the European Audiovisual Production Association (CEPI), European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), the International Federation of Actors (FIA), the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF), the International Federation of Musicians (FIM), and the Media, Entertainment & Arts sector of UNI Europa (EURO-MEI) – will promote the FoA among their member organisations and the European audiovisual sector at large. They will also reconvene regularly in the years to come to monitor progress towards more diversity and inclusion in the audiovisual sector.
