FIA expresses its support to Russian band Pussy Riot

Following the condemnation of the band’s members to a two-years imprisonment for “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred” and in its effort to defend artistic freedom around the world, FIA has sent a letter of indignation to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, calling for the immediate release of the three artists.

“This sentence is in flagrant violation of Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 10 of the European Convention on the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, to both of which Russia is a party. It is in further violation of the 1980 UNESCO Recommendation on the Status of the Artist”.
FIA is deeply shocked by this outrageous attack to artistic freedom and it has called its whole membership to take up the cause of Pussy Riot with the authorities at national and international level.

You can download the complete letter here below, both in its English and Russian versions.
