The Beijing Treaty is born! FIA celebrates as the Diplomatic conference adopts the long-awaited WIPO Treaty on the Protection of Audiovisual Performances
On the 26th of June, the «Beijing Treaty» on Audiovisual Perfromances, was adopted consensually by the Member States present at the WIPO Diplomatic Conference, granting meaningful economic and moral rights to audiovisual performers worldwide for the first time in history at international level.
FIA’s delegation celebrates this landmark moment for all performers.
The official signature of the Treaty, as well as the closing ceremony followed the adoption of the Treaty. Agnete Haaland, President of FIA, spoke at the closing ceremony to welcome the Treaty on behalf of performers around the world. In his speech of thanks at the closing ceremony, Director General of WIPO Francis Gurry paid special tribute to the role played by perfromers’ representatives in achieving the Beijing Treaty, highlighting their patience, persistence and constructive work in this process.
