Diversity and Inclusion
LGBTQ+
FIA is developing its work in relation to the challenges faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer performers. Strongly rooted in the wider labour movement, FIA supports the rights of all performers, regardless of any sexual orientation and identification. FIA urges those within the industry to recognize and protect the diversity of performers, which in turn is a reflection of the diversity of our societies.
In 2011, FIA formed its LGBTQ+ working group (now named FIA Rainbow) to, among other, pursue research on what discrimination existed for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender performers. A worldwide survey with FIA members revealed that inequalities and discrimination against LGBT people is still a reality in the entertainment industry. Indeed, despite the general assumption that our industry is a tolerant one, discriminatory practices – especially during casting process – still happen. The survey also shows that incidents of harassment in the job are alarmingly high.
In a societal context where the rights of LGBTQ+ people are constantly being challenged, it is essential that the FIA and its members actively commit to combating discrimination and harassment against all LGBTQ+ workers and undertake any action possible to protect their rights.
