FIA invites its members to participate in UNESCO online survey on the implementation of the Recommendation concerning the Status of the Artist.
Adopted by UNESCO’s General Conference in 1980, this Recommendation calls upon governments to improve the professional, social and economic status of artists through the implementation of policies and measures related to training, social security, employment, income and tax conditions, mobility, and freedom of expression.
This survey focuses on three thematic areas: culture in the digital environment; transnational mobility of artists and flow of artistic works; social and economic rights, artistic freedom and gender equality.
This exercise is of vital importance to UNESCO and for the sector, as it will furnish fresh data regarding the status of the artist nationally, regionally, and globally. This undertaking will shed light not only on the implementation of the Recommendation, but also of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions and on achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These two broader but complementary frameworks share with the Recommendation the aspiration of building environments conducive to the promotion and protection of fundamental freedoms and gender equality as pre-requisites for both the creation and dissemination of diverse cultural expressions and a continuous, inclusive and sustainable economic growth with a view to reducing inequalities within and among countries.
The survey is available at the following address: https://en.unesco.org/creativity/2018-survey-1980-recommendation (the password to access the survey will be send to you by email). Please complete this survey by 23 November 2018 at the latest so that your input can be incorporated in the fourth consolidated report on the implementation of the 1980 Recommendation that the Director General will submit at the 207th session of the Executive Board, in the fall of 2019, with a view to transmitting that report, together with the Executive Board’s comments thereon, to the General Conference at its 40th session. You may complete it in English, French or Spanish.
