Hosted by FIA’s Japanese member – the Japan Actors Union – FIA’s next Executive Committee meeting will take place in Tokyo, Japan, on 26-27 September 2018.
The scheduling of events will include working group meetings on Monday 24 (for members of the FIA Diversity/Harassment WG and members of the Legal Advisory Committee), a meeting of the English-speaking/FIANA group and the FIA Presidium on Tuesday 25 and the FIA EC meeting on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 (morning). As always, the FIA Executive Committee will be dedicated to FIA’s statutory business, as well as careful review of its work programme and progress made.
A symposium on the status of the artist in Japan will take place on the afternoon of Thursday 27. This symposium will offer the opportunity to learn about the working and living conditions of performers in Japan and for Japanese performers to hear about some inspiring examples coming from other members of the FIA Executive Committee.
The delegates will stay in two hotels, the Toshi hotel, where most meetings will take place, and the New Otani, within walking distance. Both hotels are located in the centre of Tokyo.
The delegates will be able to attend a Bunraku performance taking place at the National Theatre of Japan, on the 23rd of September, at 16:00. Bunraku is a form of traditional Japanese puppet theatre, founded in Osaka at the beginning of the 17th century. Bunraku puppets are about one-half size and each is operated by three performers: a principal operator and two assistants. Along with Noh and Kabuki, Bunraku is recognised as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. If you wish to attend the Bunraku performance, you will have register. The price for ticket is 7.000 yen.
A cocktail reception and a gala diner will also be organised in the course of the week of meetings.
We are looking forward to seeing you all in bustling Tokyo!
