UPDATE 4 January 2023: Taraneh Alidoosti has been released from prison on bail 18 days after her arrest
The International Federation of Actors has recently become aware of the unlawful imprisonment of actress Taraneh Alidoosti in Iran. Taraneh starred in multi award-winning feature film “The Salesman”.
Taraneh was arrested for her Instagram post, where she openly condemned the execution by the Iranian government of a man over his involvement with the pro-democracy demonstrations that have been challenging the Iranian theocratic regime for months. We have reached out to the Ambassador of the Islamic republic of Iran to the EU, requesting her immediate release, and have urged the European Parliament, Commission and Council as well as the Council of Europe to intercede to have her returned safely to her family.
FIA stands in solidarity with fellow performers in Iran and with all other protestors, who are fighting for democracy, freedom of expression and fundamental human rights. Women, Life, Freedom!
