FIA’s longstanding commitment to promote artistic freedom and generate political support around this important issue took shape on October 2nd, 2013, with the organisation of a conference putting a spotlight on the report on artistic freedom by UN Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights Fareeda Shaheed. FIA, as part of the working group Arts-Rights-Justice (ARJ) was one of the main drivers in the political and logistical preparation of this event. Not only was Shaheed present to talk about her report, to which FIA members have contributed, but members of the European Parliament and artists invited to the event reacted to her presentation and discussed the possible steps to advocate for artistic freedom around the world.
This gave FIA the opportunity to highlight the concerns raised by its members in their contributions to the report and to draw demands from those and raise them to the European Parliament and its members. You can download the UN report, the demands put forward by FIA through ARJ and FIA’s 2012 Congress resolution on artistic freedom below the pictures of the event.
